Girls' Basketball Update

By Craig Popper

Our Girls varsity basketball team put forth and OUTSTANDING effort against the Messalonskee Eagles on Friday night.  The game proved to be one of the best to have been played at Nokomis.  The warriors jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, but the eagles were quick to regain their lead before the half thanks to their tough full court pressure defense.  Nokomis limited their turnovers and slowly chipped away at the lead in the third. The final quarter belonged to the Warriors.  The took the lead twice, thanks to some clutch free throw shooting.  The eagles scored on their final possession of the game with only two seconds left, earning a 44-42 victory.  Nokomis received great efforts offensively from Kelly Paradis, 14 pts, Tatum Welch, 13 pts, and Teresa Cooper, 12 pts. They play against Old Town on Tuesday, December 12, in Newport.

The Boys basketball team lost a tough one in Messalonskee by a score of 72-38.  Coach D said that it would have been a winnable game had it not been for a rough shooting night.  The Warriors are looking for their first win on Tuesday, December 12th at Old Town.   Jordan Woodbury and Dylan Palmer led the scoring with 8 pts each in the loosing effort.

Girls Soccer Update

By Craig Popper

Our girls' soccer team ended their season on Tuesday with a 1-0 win over Brewer here at Nokomis.  The team played their best game together all season. Their defense was phenomenal, proving to be instrumental in the win.  The black and gold struggled to get past midfield all afternoon.  Rebecca Wonlinski, a freshmen netted her first goal of the season to lead the worries to an exciting one goal win.  Unfortunately, the Warriors missed the playoffs this year by only .2 of a point.  They improved tremendously throughout the season.

Field Hockey Update

 By Craig Popper

The Nokomis field hockey team tied with Brewer this past week. Sabrina Rallencourt scored the lone goal for the Warriors.   They currently stand in fourth place in the heel point standings.  They will try to move up at least one spot before the regular season comes to an end.  The top three teams automatically advance into the playoffs.  A fourth place finish means that Nokomis would have to win a preliminary round game in order to advance into postseason play.  Go Warriors!

Boys' Soccer Update

By Craig Popper

The Nokomis boy's soccer team lost a tough game last Thursday here at home against Lawrence. The final score in the end was 2-0. The Bulldogs paced themselves in their victory, getting one goal in each half of play.

The game proved even closer than the score indicated. Wayne May was phenomenal in goal, as he stood on his head for most of the afternoon in order to keep his team in the game. Ben Badeen, Cody Haverly- Jhondro, and Jordan Woodbury put forth strong efforts offensively.

The Lawrence defense was the deciding factor in the outcome however, as they were able to put a stop to the frontline of Nokomis. Most importantly, the Warriors maintained a no-quit attitude throughout the game.

Nokomis fell to 1-9 last week while the bulldogs from Fairfield improved their record to 3-6-1.

Field Hockey Update

(Editor's Note:  This article was written about a week ago, so it's a little out of date.  We will do the best we can to keep this site updated more often in the future.)
By Julie Mello
Varsity Field Hockey has won 3 out of 4 games and have been ranked third in heal points. Sabrina Valencourt is top scorer right now and she has scored all but three of the goals. Mrs. Thompson said she is their all-star player in so many words. Also they have Erin Knight scoring two and Lauren scoring one. Their goalies are Beth Flanders and Jackie Flye who have done unbelievable this year. So far field hockey has done a great job this year.
JV Field Hockey is undefeated as of right now. They have won 4 of 8 games and tied the other four. Some of the leading scorers right now are Leigh Lander, Holly Huges, and Jenni Morral all with two goals. Rachel Tosher scoring one. The goalies are Audrey Sylvester, and Hannah Hanson, whom have done a brilliant job because we haven't lost a game, said Mrs. Briggs, the coach.
